The Historical Records of

The Maldives National University

The story of MNU is the story of post-secondary education in the Maldives. The establishment of the Maldives College of Higher Education (MCHE) in 1998 was to spawn a disproportionate number of colleges both public and private. Some of these colleges were later to become universities.

This book outlines the development of MNU in the years since 1998. It is a personal account of what really happened including the challenges faced, and the  roles of supporters and detractors.  The link is yet inactive but some chapters of the book may be accessed below.

Strategic Plans

MNU was noted by external senior executives exposed to MNU governance as being the most strategically planned institution in the Maldives. Apart from strategic plans, the institution also develops and implements annual operational plans. Strategic planning usually takes no less than six months involving staff at all levels. There are other plans, including teaching development plans, IT plans, etc. Samples are shown after the strategic plans as exemplars for posterity
